Manos de Madres ("Hands of Mothers") is a nonprofit organization dedicated to carving pathways out of poverty and improving the lives of women and their families through livelihoods initiatives founded upon the principles of entrepreneurship, cooperation, creativity, and sustainability. Beginning in 2003 with projects in Honduras, Manos de Madres works with vulnerable women and young adults to develop business capacity and financial independence. Partnering with local resources, participants receive creative assistance in product development, technical training in production, financial training and ongoing support in marketing and sales. While originally focused upon export sales, emphasis has evolved to development of local markets as this strategy promotes increased self-reliance and resilience. Manos de Madres strives to ensure that Fair Trade standards are maintained and that food security, health and education objectives are furthered. Manos de Madres is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation (FTF) and Green America.
